An Ode to Frosty Days (a poem and photos)

An Ode to Frosty Days

(A poem)

Cold that shivers,
your very core.
Fog rolling,
like
waves against a shore.

Frost, a glaze
on the tips of leaves.
Sun shining,
touching the trees.

Pause,
Look,
Wonder.

A spider web coated
in frozen dew.
A walk with your dog,
just you two.

Everything colored
light bluish gray.
My ode to those
lovely frosty days.

Good day ladies and gentlemen!

Over these past few chilly weeks I’ve been venturing outside into the cold with a camera in hand. Often, I am joined by my half witted dog – who perhaps only feigns stupidity, so that little will be expected of him.

Wandering through the outdoors I wait for a lovey bit of nature to catch my eye. When I stumble upon something I pull out my camera and try to capture the beautiful object before me. Frequently though, I find I cannot do the subject justice, for how can one properly capture the way frost glitters in the light, or the chirp and flitter of birds?

That is why photos — most often — must be coupled with words for when the two are combined they hold greater power.

But, I must restrain myself and return to the purpose of this post before I am carried away upon the back of that creature known as Over Enjoyment, (if said mythical actually exists that is).

Regardless, I am quite happy with how these photos turned out, so I thought I would share them with you all.

Upon compiling this post though, I ran into a hiccup — or problem as you might call it. The problem was the title. You see, I wanted to call this post An Ode to Frosty Days but such a title is far better suited to poetry than a pretty little pile of photos. So what could I do? The answer, simply put, was that I must write a poem.  So I gathered my supplies and took ten minutes to create the poem at the beginning of this post.

For those of you wondering, these photos are a compilation of images captured with a Nikon camera, (that is actually the property of my wonderful mother, but is used more so by me) and the delightful (and possibly dangerous) contraption some call an iPhone.

The majority of the photos have been taken over these past few weeks, but I also took the liberty to add a favorite from years prior.

And that is all dear friends! I sincerely hope you enjoy!
